While mixed nuts offer the promise of "balanced nutrition", Dr. Zuo suggests that for true health benefits, we should opt for plain nuts and fresh fruits.


According to the 2016 Chinese Dietary Guidelines, it's best to consume 25-35 grams of plain nuts daily and 200-350 grams of fresh fruit. Dried fruits, on the other hand, lose most of their vitamin C and fiber during the drying process. They are often loaded with sugar and additives, making them higher in calories and less nutritious than fresh fruits.


Overeating dried fruits can also lead to weight gain and increased blood sugar levels, which is particularly risky for people with chronic health conditions.
