Visitors arriving at this international airport by air will immediately feel the relaxing atmosphere. The docks are just a five-minute walk from the airport, and the small and large transport boats, exclusive to the islands' hotels, are already at the docks with the sound of their engines, waiting for guests. Transportation to and from the local islands is by dhoni, speedboat, helicopter, or seaplane. Transportation of passengers will be arranged by the local hosts but must be booked in advance.

Other watercraft are more common than Doni boats. So what is the novelty of the Dorney boat?

The Dhonis, the traditional Maldivian boats, have been the means of transportation between the islands for ages, and are the fishing boats that the indigenous people rely on for their livelihood.

The boat is made from coconut trees, from the hull, sail trusses, nails, cables to the sails, and the 2,000-year history of the ancestors with the sea has produced excellent boat-building skills.

The modern version of the Dhonis has been converted to a commercial vessel with a Yamaha engine. However, some Maldivian fishermen still can't forget to use sail fishing boats to cruise and fish in the calm sea of the atoll, which forms a rich picture of the sea.

The RAA atoll is famous for its boat-building skills, which have been passed down through history and evolved over the centuries, and its elegant shape and strong structure have not changed much. The most unique feature of the Dorney is the boat's directional control. The captain uses one foot to steer the boat forward, turn, and reverse the formation. The captain must have a wealth of sailing experience and a unique sense of directional orientation to cruise the atolls of the coral reefs, day and night. Dorney boats travel at about 7-8 knots and are generally about 21 yards long and 6-7 yards wide, with a solid construction suitable for sailing through rough seas.

Today, the Dhonis have become the main role of shuttle boats between island hotels, and can also be used as a shuttle boat for tourists for recreational boat fishing, island tours, and BoatDiving, and the former fishing boatmen have been transformed into captains of hotel boats.

The curved moon shape of the bow and the unique rudder of the Dhonis are representative works of Maldivian craftsmen. The Dhonis are an unforgettable experience, especially when cruising through the atolls at night when the sky is full of stars that you can embrace.
