The original intention of building this geographic wonder was to form a miniature version of the Earth with 300 artificial islands shaped like the world's continents.

The World Islands are the largest man-made islands in the world. These islands will house hotels and various leisure and tourism facilities, and the scale of the entire project is the eighth wonder of the modern world.

The original design of the World Islands was to build seven continents, but the people of Dubai realized that no one would be able to afford such a large island, so the seven continents plan was changed to an artificial archipelago of 300 artificial islands in the shape of the world's continents, including the continents where Britain, France and the United States are located, as well as China's Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The entire archipelago is 9 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide, with each island ranging from approximately 250 square feet to 900 square feet in size, with 50 to 100 meters of water separating the islands.

The islands are divided into four types: private residences, luxury residences, Fantasyland, and public islands. The 300 islands are protected by oval breakwaters about 2 meters high around them.

It adds 232 kilometers of coastline to Dubai. The scheme is designed according to the shape of the world map and is divided into 300 multiple artificial islands.

The Dubai Nahl Group, which is responsible for the construction work, revealed that the entire reclamation project will use 30 million tons of rock and 300 million cubic meters of sea sand.

From the announcement of the construction of the "World Islands" in September 2003 to the first island surfacing in April 2004, it took just over half a year.

The World Islands consist of 300 artificial islands arranged in the form of a map of the world, well protected by ovoid waves, and will be the most breathtaking island residential project in the world.

The "World Islands" will have a total area of 60 million square feet (about 5.57 million square meters), and depending on the size and location, the prices range from 3.5 million pounds to 20 million pounds. The islands are separated by about 50-100 meters, and people can only travel between the mainland and the islands by water or air.

Considering that nearly 250,000 settlers and tourists will visit the World Islands every year after its completion, the designers have designed and built 5 waterways, 4 transportation centers, and more than 2,000 berths in the archipelago, with 60 large transport vessels and 400 "cab boats" similar to cabs in cities, from where tourists can take boats to travel between the islands in the future.

The project will use 30 million tons of rock and 300 million cubic meters of sand, with no man-made or chemical materials. The rock comes from quarries across the UAE and the sand from Dubai. The "World Islands" are the most expensive real estate on the planet, with each island costing about $15-50 million.

However, according to British media reports, lawyers have evidence that the man-made "map of the world at sea" is gradually sinking and is in danger of being flooded. NASA recently released a set of photos taken on the International Space Station. The photos show that the artificial archipelago of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, "World Islands" seems to be approaching the center and continuing to sink.

As early as when the World Island first began construction, environmentalists have been fierce criticism of this plan, they believe that the construction of artificial islands of this scale will not only destroy the natural ecological balance of the ocean but also difficult to ensure the long-term stability of its construction roots.
